Explanation and Legend of the Curse
The curse of the crystal blue eyes goes back to ancient times, thousands upon thousands of years ago. In the beginning, There was a single pack of wolves. Their Alpha, a male named Bartet, was a kind and noble leader, but was only concerned for the welfare of his pack, nothing more. Far from the wolves lived the largest caribou herd ever amassed, and they inhabited a beautiful, euphoric clearing With two massive, flat boulders toppled over each other acting as the center piece as well as a significant spiritual monument. Their leader was an incredible buck notorious for his amazing spiritual powers, as well as his unearthly connection to both nature and the spiritual plane. His name was King Nero, and he acted as the world's pacifier. He established firm laws with the wolf pack, claiming that they could not attack or prey upon them during their breeding season in the spring and summer; only during the colder months were they allowed the privilege, when prey was not as easily found. One season, Nero begot his own offspring: a lively young foul named Lilah, who was born with unnatural crystal blue eyes. Yet on the other end of the spectrum, the wolf pack was facing starvation. They had licked their territory clean of feasible prey to sustain their immense numbers, and now they had nothing. A plethora of wolves were dying of hunger and sickness and there wasn't anything anyone could do. But Bartet, being the caring male that he was, refused to just stand by and watch his pack- his family- starve to death. He was especially pressed due to the fact that his own mate, a she-wolf heavy with his pups, was growing weaker and weaker by the minute. Seeing no other option, He decided to deliberately break the traditional laws and attack the caribou herd during the warm season.
On that one, fateful spring morning, Bartet lead a powerful armada of wolves against the copious caribou, mindlessly slaughtering whatever beast dared to near them. In the ruthless hunt, Lilah was killed. Enraged and despairing, the once gentle and just spiritual king turned ruthless, malevolent, and vengeful. After convening with the spirits, he enacted his merciless punishment on the wolves. He cursed them, claiming that within their pack, a she-wolf would be born with Lilah's unique crystal blue gaze. Once that she-wolf turned three years old, she would be taken to the clearing where his daughter had died, layed upon the altar and killed as a sacrifice. If the wolves did not comply, they would be plagued with the same severe starvation they had experienced prior until they had been completely eradicated. If they did kill her, however, the pack would be awarded with an over abundance of prey. Bartet snorted at his claims, dismissing it as nothing but an empty threat... until the day his mate gave birth. To his horror, she begot a single pup: a she-wolf with crystal blue eyes.
Her name was Karani, and she possessed the same kind, complacent demeanor that Lilah had. When the fae turned three, and the dreaded famine overtook the pack just as Nero had said it would, Bartet refused to kill his daughter. But, upon realizing that her pack's plight had been caused by her, she insisted that her father sacrifice her, claiming that she had absolutely nothing to live for if her life meant her pack mate's death. after the solemn deed had been done, Nero threw in a sick jab at the melancholy alpha by rewarding him with an extraordinary power for taking his offspring's life. He gave the male the gift of clairvoyance and the ability to hear and see the unspoken thoughts of others.
After the first sacrifice, Bartet thought it was over, but his hopes were far from the truth. Nero prolonged the curse, letting it continue for millennia. As time went on, the single pack split into several, and they all began to ruthlessly compete for "the Karani," as the accursed wolf was now called, in which a new one was born directly after the death of the prior one. everyone experienced the famine until the Karani was sacrificed, but only the pack who sacrificed her was rewarded with euphoria; their rivals were left to starve. This of course caused the packs to begin hunting down and stealing the Karani from their rivals so they could sacrifice her themselves. The amazing prospect of the power also proceeded with the curse, prompting many selfish individuals to slaughter the gentle she-wolf for their own greedy desire for the ultimate prize.
These are the conditions the pack of the mountain reside in. Whether they will allow themselves to succumb to the behavior of their counterparts, of course, is completely up to the individual...
